This workshop will discuss and demonstrate how our implicit bias, miro-messages and miro-aggression, can impact rigor, relationships and discipline for students of color. To establish a student centered learning culture, teachers must adjust their expectations and instructional practices to ensure no students are marginalized in the classroom. Participants will learn how to: assess their academic expectations, assess their biases and operationalize that in the classroom; how bias, miro-messaging and miro-aggression can influence our expectations of students, specifically students of color.
